There’s no story in the history of soccer stranger or more amazing than the one right in front of you!

The photo above was taken by photographer Juan Monfort in 2007.

At the time, FC Barcelona and the newspaper Diario Sport organized a charity event, with proceeds going to charitable organizations in Catalonia.

As part of this initiative, one family won a raffle—and luckily, it was Lamine Yamal’s family!

The prize at the time was for the child to have his picture taken with the Barcelona players, and one of those photos shows 20-year-old Messi protecting Lamine Yamal, who was only 5 months old at the time. When Yamal grew up and saw this photo, he told the announcer, “This photo might be the World Cup final in the future.”

And just like the script, 19 years later, Yamal has grown up, taken Messi’s place at Barcelona, become the team’s top star, reached the World Cup final, and faced Messi in person in the last World Cup match of Messi’s career!

From a child carried in Messi’s arms to a teenager competing head-to-head with Messi for the sport’s biggest title—it’s the greatest story in soccer.
