Great project for Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid made an extremely impressive deal today, officially hiring Mateu Alemany as the team’s new sporting director!
For those who don’t know, Alemany is one of the most successful managers in world football.
Imagine that in 2000, Alemany was the president of Mallorca.
Under his tenure, the team qualified for the Champions League in 2002 and won the Copa del Rey in 2003.
He also brought in Samuel Eto’o for just 7 million euros, selling him to Barcelona for 27 million euros in 2004!
Alemany then joined Barcelona in 2021 as sporting director and saved the team from crises, such as getting rid of the huge salaries of Coutinho and Griezmann, selling them to Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa.
He also brought in free signings like Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, and Aubameyang, followed by Raphinha, Lewandowski, Kounde, and Christensen!
Unfortunately, Barcelona lost this man because he was working hard, without a huge budget, and was not fully empowered due to the interference of Laporta and Xavi in some of the matters he was managing.

Al-Yamani was also Valencia’s sporting director in 2017, bringing in players like Guedes, Gameiro, Kondogbia, and Coquelin.
They won the Copa del Rey in 2019 against Barcelona.
The idea is that Atletico doesn’t have spending problems.
This means they’ll set a normal budget for Al-Yamani in the next transfer window, and you’ll find deals that suit the team’s style, whether he continues with Simeone or the next era, which I believe is being prepared for a coach like Philippe Luis.
